NQAS
Encouraging accommodation businesses to participate in national quality schemes and achieve a star rating is fundamental to raising standards in the East Midlands.
The National Quality Assurance Scheme (NQAS) more commonly known as star ratings, covers all types of accommodation from large hotels and self catering establishments to small B&Bs.
Currently only around 50 percent of accommodation providers across England participate in a quality scheme. One of EMT’s objectives outlined in the 2008 – 2011 strategic plan is to drive this figure up and encourage more accommodation providers to sign up.
Consumer recognition of the national standard (star rating) is growing and becoming more important. There is general awareness that a “five star hotel” means luxury and a “one star hotel” means simple, clean and comfortable.
A star rating gives reliable information about quality including cleanliness, the
warmth of welcome, the range of facilities and the availability of food. From a business perspective a star rating denotes professionalism, a guarantee of minimum
standards, a code of business practice and an independent means for resolving
dispute.
